About Pattaya
Pattaya is often described as an adult
Disneyland. The city is a beach-side resort catering to many
types of tourist. In Pattaya you will find families on holiday
to people on package tours to men who come to enjoy the
delights of Thai Ladies. It can cater very well for all types
of tourists.
Pattaya is located approximately 150km to
the south-east of Bangkok and about 125km from the
international airport (Suvanabhumi.) It developed from a small
fishing village following the arrival of US serviceman began
arriving on R&R breaks from the Vietnam war via the nearby
U-Tapao airport.
Pattaya is the oldest international beach
resort in Thailand. However, it is not the most attractive.
However its proximity to Bangkok and vibrant nightlife ensures
that it receives many visitors from overseas and from Bangkok
residents.
The highlife in Pattaya is varied but tends
to cater for single men who are attracted by the Thai ladies
who work in the bars in the city. However, there is plenty of
'family-oriented' entertainment venues.
Over recent times western standard shopping
complexes aimed at tourists have been developed and continue to
be developed. These tend to be located in the stripe bound bout
Beach Road and second Road with North and South Pattaya Roads
forming the northern and southern ends. Most western good and
food can be found in the area.
Restaurants cater to every taste and desire.
You can find quick, cheap and tasty local foods provided by
carts, to western fast food to international standard
restaurants. For the most part the food is cheap and of a good
quality. For those who don't like the local food and on a
moderate budget there are many restaurants available providing
very good value western menus.
Accommodation is plentiful and varied. Guest
house accommodation starting at 200 Baht a night can be found.
At the other end there are internationally know hotels charging
international prices. Between the two extremes there are many
options.
What ever the reason you go to Pattaya you
will have a good time if you go with the right attitude. There
is plenty to keep most people occupied for a short stay. Day
time activities include local temples, museums and theme parks.
However it is at night where Pattaya really shines. The
nightlife continues until after the sun rises in the morning,
if you have the stamina.
Don't expect everything to be like at home.
Keep in mind that Thai culture is not the same and you are
advised to educate yourself a little before going. Two things
never to do while in Thailand is to never insult the King or
Buddha.
